Barbagann Games were asked several questions about gaming, mobile gaming, and the challenges faced during game development and this article was featured on the TV Guide which is handed out by The Times. The game Scarfish is still being developed and should be released some time next Summer. Scarfish, the game we developed snapped 2nd place and an honourable mention from Vince Briffa, one of the judges during the GameZing 2011 awards ceremony who is the head of department of Digital Art within the University of Malta.   The competition consisted of 13 teams in total from St. Martins Institute of IT, University of Malta, and a competitor from the University of Copenhagen.  After achieving third place when we were competing at the GameDev Challenge 2011 we were quite happy that we improved our position in this competition, with more competing teams.  We were also quite delighted we got an honourable mention from one of the judges for having the best graphics amongst other qualities.

After this success with Scarfish, an iOS/Android/Web game we have developed during the last 7 months, we would like to improve the game further until we see it is in a position to be placed on the Apple and Android App Stores.  I would like to thank St. Martins for the support and tuition in the area of game development, GameZing for the awards ceremony and prizes, my team mates at Barbagann Games with whom we have worked so hard to achieve this placing and all of our supporters and testers.

The game “Scarfish” which my team, Barbagann Games were working on the last six months placed 3rd at the GameDev Challenge 2011 organised by St. Martins Insitute of IT.  The next real proving point is when the app is released on Android and iOS markets. We will also know the results for GameZing 2011 in January 2012.

In the meantime, enjoy our introductory storyboard:

I am a proud iPhone user, which also happens to be my work phone.  So I am posting this blog post to share some of the cool, free iPhone apps I find useful.

These are some of my personal, favorite iPhone business applications:

  1. Skype – This app is a good way to keep in touch with your co-workers from anywhere.  You can even make free calls via skype, if the person you want to call is online.
  2. Dropbox – This is one of my favorite Windows Applications, which happens to be also one of my favorite iPhone applications. I use Dropbox to keep a backup of my important files but sometimes I even upload my to-do lists or shopping lists from my computer onto Dropbox, and then, I can view them from anywhere.
  3. GoDaddy – I use GoDaddy to manage my personal domains.  It is a cool app I use when I want to manage my domains when I’m not at home, you can do nearly anything you usually do from their website.
  4. Dictionary.com – When you are about to send an important e-mail and you’re not sure about a word, you can easily check it’s meaning and how it’s spelled using this app.
  5. PayPal – You can send money easily with the payment Application, and it also has a Bump feature, where you actually bump your iPhone with another iPhone to transfer the money to the other user.
  6. Google – The Google app is good to have if you’re a Google user, and in one way or another nearly everyone is.  Bundled with it you have Gmail, Google Maps, Google Docs, Google Earth and much more Google apps.
  7. XE Currency – Must have app for real-time currency conversions.
  8. Facebook – If your business is on Facebook, this will be handy to update your page and check for messages or comments.
  9. Twitter – Keep your followers updated from your iPhone with the Twitter iPhone app.
  10. LinkedIn – Manage your LinkedIn page and keep contact with your LinkedIn Friends with this app.

If you have any cool apps you would like to share, please post them in the comments section below.
