Scarfish, the game we developed snapped 2nd place and an honourable mention from Vince Briffa, one of the judges during the GameZing 2011 awards ceremony who is the head of department of Digital Art within the University of Malta.   The competition consisted of 13 teams in total from St. Martins Institute of IT, University of Malta, and a competitor from the University of Copenhagen.  After achieving third place when we were competing at the GameDev Challenge 2011 we were quite happy that we improved our position in this competition, with more competing teams.  We were also quite delighted we got an honourable mention from one of the judges for having the best graphics amongst other qualities.

After this success with Scarfish, an iOS/Android/Web game we have developed during the last 7 months, we would like to improve the game further until we see it is in a position to be placed on the Apple and Android App Stores.  I would like to thank St. Martins for the support and tuition in the area of game development, GameZing for the awards ceremony and prizes, my team mates at Barbagann Games with whom we have worked so hard to achieve this placing and all of our supporters and testers.

The game “Scarfish” which my team, Barbagann Games were working on the last six months placed 3rd at the GameDev Challenge 2011 organised by St. Martins Insitute of IT.  The next real proving point is when the app is released on Android and iOS markets. We will also know the results for GameZing 2011 in January 2012.

In the meantime, enjoy our introductory storyboard:

Me and my team, Barbagann Games will be competing again in the St. Martins Institute of IT Game Development Challenge 2 against 7 other teams. We are currently brain storming our ideas and coming up with good idea for a game at the moment. For the 2nd year I will be teams Game Designer.

This time we will be developing for the iOS devices, and most probably the iPhone. So if you have an iOS device and would like to be part of the Beta Testing team, just leave a comment here or go on the link below and I will contact you as soon as we start the Beta Testing phase.

Once I have more information, a trailer, or some screen shots I will be posting them here 🙂

One of the reasons I am not blogging so often recently is because I am part of a team named Barbagann Game Studios and we are developing a game called Battles on the Horizon.

The game genre is action and role playing.  The story takes place in Malta, in the 18th Century when Malta was ruled by the Knights of St. John.  The character whom you will be playing with is a young Corsair and you have been entrusted with one of the orders Ships. vYour job is to trade in the Mediterranean seas and to defend yourself against pirate attacks.

We are going to use this game to enter a local Digital Games Production competition called GameZing.

One of the reasons that we created this game for, is to help young students who don’t like reading about our history, by giving them a game to play which is obviously more fun and it is based on some of Malta’s rich history which they can re-live!

The game should be finished by the end of November, and the Beta should be out by the end of October.
